New Haven centers get $600K to boost mental health services

Fair Haven and Cornell Scott Hill Health Centers in New Haven are celebrating increased federal funding aimed at improving mental health services. Fair Haven and Cornell Scott Hill Health Center are two of the health centers in Connecticut that will be getting $600,000 in federal money to help boost mental health and addiction treatment. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is co-sponsor of an act that would authorize millions more.

“Despite a team here at Fair Haven Community Health Care of over 30 behavioral health clinicians, we still have a waiting list of over 300 patients who need our services,” said Suzanne Legarde, the CEO of Fair Haven Community Health Care.

The funding comes as part of a broader initiative, co-sponsored by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, to promote mental health care, particularly in urban and minority communities, where stigmas and access challenges persist
